Start strong at Iowa State: Your essential post-orientation checklist

Now that you’ve completed orientation, it’s time to finalize the remaining steps to ensure a successful transition to Iowa State University. From submitting final transcripts and reviewing housing details in the StarRez portal to accessing your book list and preparing for Destination Iowa State, these tasks will help you hit the ground running as you begin this exciting new chapter.

Explore Workday

Workday is your secure and personalized online resource for accessing your important and confidential university information and web applications.

  • Verify ISU Alert information.
  • Update emergency contact information and third-party permissions.
  • Check your mailing address for accuracy.
  • Review your class schedule for accuracy and room locations after August 1 (if beginning Iowa State in the fall) or January 1 (if beginning Iowa State in the spring)
  • Watch for university billing statement after August 1 (if beginning Iowa State in the fall) or January 1 (if beginning Iowa State in the spring). A message will be sent to your Iowa State email address notifying you that your bill is available.
  • Verify your financial aid status and return all the required forms.
  • View mandatory health requirements on the Thielen Student Health Center website and submit your records.

Submit all final transcripts

First-year students

Request your high school submit an official copy of your final transcript to the Office of Admissions. If you’ve attempted any college credits while in high school, you must also request that the college(s) send us an official transcript.

Transfer students

Request your previous college(s) submit an official copy of your final transcripts to the Office of Admissions.

View your housing and dining details in StarRez housing portal

Look over move-in details and make a packing list. Contact your roommate to coordinate who will bring what shared items.

Parking information

Review campus parking options and purchase a parking permit through the ISU Parking portal, if applicable

Access your book list to purchase textbooks and course materials

Prepare for your first day of class with textbooks and technology at the ISU Book Store in the Memorial Union. Explore your required textbook list and discover the ease of the Immediate Access program to ensure a successful first day of class. Find your required computer at TechCyte with the Major Success program, including free Microsoft Office 365 applications.
