Orientation parking

Starting classes in January? (Spring entry)

OnCyte Orientation

Please park in the Memorial Union Parking Ramp, conveniently located on the east side of the Memorial Union. During check-in, you’ll receive one free parking voucher.

Starting classes in May, June, or August? (Summer or Fall entry)

First-year student OnCyte Orientation

Parking is available in Lot 63. Upon arrival, stop at the parking tent located near the entrance of Lot 63, just north of the Maple-Willow-Larch Residence Halls, to pick up your orientation parking pass.

Transfer student OnCyte Orientation

We recommend parking in the Memorial Union Parking Ramp, situated on the east side of the Memorial Union. One free parking voucher will be provided during check-in.

Getting to Ames, Iowa

By car

Ames is conveniently located in the heart of the Midwest, offering excellent access via major highways. Interstate 35 runs north-south through Ames and connects with Interstate 80, an east-west route, just 25 miles to the south. Key nearby cities include Minneapolis (218 miles north), Chicago (322 miles east), and Omaha (168 miles west).

By plane

The Des Moines International Airport, served by numerous commercial and commuter airlines, is the nearest major airport. For private aircraft, the Ames Municipal Airport is available. Car rental services are conveniently located at the Des Moines airport for onward travel.
